What you need to know before arriving:

Most of Intel’s cleanroom areas between 1,000 and 10,000 times cleaner than a hospital operating theatre, and this is because a single particle that the human eye cannot see can be detrimental to the manufacturing process if it lands on the wafer surface. The technology we work with is so minute that each line on the wafer is 5000 times smaller than the diameter of one single human hair.

Therefore anyone entering the clean room must ensure that they adhere to the following protocol to avoid contaminating the environment in the cleanroom with particles.

Cleanroom requirements:

  • No food (sweets, gum, cough drops, throat lozenges, tobacco etc.) is allowed in the cleanroom
  • No cosmetics and aerosol hair or personal products can be worn if you are going into the cleanroom. For example, make up, hair spray, perfumes, lipstick, foundation, colored moisturizer, eye make up of any kind, shaving talc, deodorant/perfume, etc.
  • No non-cleanroom paper and paper products can be taken inside the cleanroom
  • All personal items need to be left outside of the cleanroom.
  • No mobile phones or cameras are allowed in the cleanroom.

Recommendations:

  • Do not wear warm clothing such as a jacket, coat, woolen jumper. These can be left in a secure place.
  • Flat comfortable shoes are strongly recommended; high heels are not allowed.
  • Skirts should not be worn.
  • People with severe colds, coughs , sneezing attacks or skin problems which result in excessive skin flaking cannot go to into the clean room.
